Opportunities in the Scott group

Applications from prospective Part II or summer project students who are interested in joining the group are both welcome and strongly encouraged. In the first instance, please simply contact Daniel directly.

Specific opportunities for DPhil and postdoctoral researchers are highlighted below, and numerous postdoctoral fellowships and postgraduate scholarships are also available to support strong and enthusiastic candidates.

If you are interested in joining the group and contributing to our research, please do get in contact. We are always excited to hear from potential new members!

As part of our move to Bath, we have funding available to support a new PhD student in the group, starting in late 2023.

The successful applicant will have to chance to work on an entirely new project exploring the chemistry of electronically-unusual, molecular main group compounds, and their potential applications in transition metal-free catalysis.

Further details of the position can be found here, and applications are open until January 22nd. Initial, informal enquiries are also welcome, and can be sent to Daniel directly.

The Scott group is affiliated with the Oxford Inorganic Chemistry for Future Manufacturing Centre for Doctoral Training. The OxICFM CDT is a four-year, multi-disciplinary doctoral programme with strong links to industry that is an excellent choice for those interested in inorganic chemical synthesis.

We typically offer several distinct research projects in any given round, each in collaboration with another research group in the Department of Chemistry. More information about application rounds and available projects can be found here.

For applicants with a particular interest in the areas where our research overlaps with the field of organic chemistry, the Scott group is affiliated the Synthesis for Biology and Medicine Centre for Doctoral Training (SBM CDT). This is a four-year doctoral programme that offers joint academic-industrial training in cutting-edge synthesis and its impact on significant problems in biology and medicine.

Applicants from Germany who are interested in joining the group as postdoctoral researchers are encouraged to consider the Humboldt Foundation's Feodor Lynen Fellowship (Feodor Lynen-Forschungsstipendium) which provides funding for a research stay abroad of up to 24 months. As a previous Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow, Daniel is able to host Feodor Lynen Fellows. If you are interested, please get in contact.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

The Scott group, the Department of Chemistry and the University of Oxford are all committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive research environment that welcomes researchers from any background. Anyone who is talented, enthusiastic and interested in joining in our research is strongly encouraged to send an enquiry or application regardless of race, cultural or socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. Science is a collective endeavour from which the entire world benefits and to which the entire world should be free to contribute, and we work to consciously maintain an inclusive working atmosphere.
